I was a CNA working my way through nursing school and did home care with Russ. Russ had a major stroke that left him with some expressive aphasia. When we first met her would have difficulty getting his thoughts into words. Over the two years we were together he continued to have smaller strokes, and seizures worsening the aphasia, but the longer we were together the more we were able to communicate. Like an old married couple i would see that look in his eyes, telling me he didn’t like the tv program, or that it was time to go outside. He always smiled and had great facial expressions to communicate his pleasure with a good meal, or visit from his granddaughter.
